This is a known issue. Mobile Safari may show this error message. Are you having this issue opening web addresses in Safari on your iPhone or iPad. Then this article is for you.

A lot of iPad or iPhone users use Safari to browse the web. Safari users may occasionally experience various issues. If you find that Safari is not opening web sites,  tips below may help you fix this problem.

Safari cannot open a page

Please try each step one at a time until you resolve your issue.

1. Make sure that the iOS software on your device is up to date. You can check for updates by going to Settings > General and Software Update.

2. You might have a bad Internet connection. Try a different Wi-Fi connection. You may also try to enable Airplane Mode for about a minute before disabling it to see if there is a difference. See also:

You may also try resetting your network settings by going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. Please note that doing so will erase your network settings such as your Wi-Fi passwords etc.

3. Delete your history, cookies, and cache in Safari. Here is how you can do that:

  • Tap Settings > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, after doing this:
  • Go to Settings > Safari > Advanced > Website Data > Remove All Website Data

4. A lot of users are using VPNs and proxy servers for various reasons. Are you using a proxy or a VPN? Try disabling them to see if this makes a difference. If disabling does not solve your problem, you can re-enable them.

5. Quit Safari and restart again. Here is how:

  • If your device is an iPhone X or an iPad with iOS 12 (or later), go to the Home screen, and swipe up and pause about halfway. This will open the app switcher. You will see all of your open apps. Swipe left or right until you find the Safari icon. Then swipe up on the app to close it. The re-open Safari and try again.
  • If your device is an iPhone 8 or an earlier model, then double press the Home button. This will again open the app switcher, find Safari and swipe up.

6. Restart your device. Here is how:

  • iPhone 11 or X and iPad with Face ID models: Press and hold the side (or top) and volume up (or down) buttons together until you see the power off slider. Slide the slider and your phone or iPad will power off. Wait about 30 seconds and then turn it back on by pressing and holding the side or top button until you see the Apple logo.
  • iPhone 8 or earlier and iPad with a Home button models: Press and hold the side or top button until the power off slider appears. Then slide the slider. Wait 30 seconds and then turn it back on by pressing and holding the side or top button until you see the Apple logo.
  • Note that if your device is running iOS 12 or later, then turn off your device by going to Settings > General > Shut Down.

7. Force restart your device. This is also called a hard reset. Do not worry this is not restoring your phone to its factory settings. Doing this will not erase your settings or content. Here is how:

  • iPhone 8 or later and iPad with Face ID models: Press and release the volume up and then volume down buttons and then press and hold the side or top button until you see the Apple logo, if you see the power off slider, ignore it.
  • iPhone 7 models: Press and hold the side or top and volume down buttons together for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple logo.
  • Devices with a home button such as iPhone 5, iPad Air, etc: Press and hold the home and side or top buttons together for about 10 seconds until the Apple logo appears.
